The Clubhouse Café – run recently as a pilot with the Brooklyn Café – has currently closed.

The committee would like to take this opportunity to thanks the members who supported the café, and to the Brooklyn Cafe for providing the service.

The Brooklyn Café will be willing to provide catering on special occasions or set-piece events.

“The time of the beginners is changing from Thursday at nine , to Wednesday at seven. Cost is £5 for the hour and starting next month we will introducing cardio tennis”.

Photography competition

The sun is shining (at last!) and to celebrate the start of the tennis season, Tennis Scotland is today launching theMacmillan Cancer Support Photo of the Month competition, where amateur photographers and tennis enthusiasts across Scotland have the opportunity to share their best snaps and win some exciting prizes including a family pass to the ATP World Tour Finals at the O2 Arena in London.

Anybody can enter this competition – all you need to do is send us your tennis themed photos, the more creative the better, by emailing us at facebook@tennisscotland.org

The best entries each month will be showcased on the Tennis Scotland Facebook page –www.facebook.com/tennisscotland <http://www.facebook.com/tennisscotland> – and every month the best photo will win a Wilson BLX Club Backpack (RRP – £29.95).

All photos received by 30th September 2012 will also be considered for the Macmillan Cancer Support Photo of the Year competition, the winner of which will receive one family pass to attend a session at the ATP World Tour Finals at the O2 Arena in London in November.

Subscriptions reminder

Thanks to everyone who has paid their membership fees so far. Hopefully you should all have received your green shoe tags. Could any prospective members for this year please note that membership fees must be paid by the 30th April. Any fees received after this will be subject to an additional £10 admin fee.

Clubhouse Cafe

The members’ Clubhouse Café is now open.

It brings together two Glasgow Southside institutions – Titwood Tennis Club and the family-run Brooklyn Café of Minard Road, which celebrated 80 years in business last year.

The Brooklyn team have agreed to run this as a pilot scheme after an approach from the Club’s committee. During this period, we hope to gauge demand, popularity and to get as much feedback from members as possible.

Once the pilot is complete, it will be time to assess everyone’s views and to consider how the Club can benefit from a possible commercial agreement with the Brooklyn.

To date, the reaction seems to be generally in favour of the idea.

But not everyone agrees. Naturally, some members have expressed reservations about the whole issue and that is understandable. Please be assured that everyone’s observations, or concerns, will be taken extremely seriously.

In the meantime, the committee has agreed that two flasks of hot water will be available for the social tennis players on Saturday afternoons who may prefer to continue making their own teas and coffees. We hope this proves acceptable.

The Club committee is determined to maintain the values of our Club but it is also keen, on behalf of the members, to explore new avenues for potential, additional income for the future benefit of us all at Titwood.

This message will be displayed on the Club website and on posters at the Club.

Brooklyn Cafe at Titwood: Launch today, Sat 14th April – come along!

The Brooklyn Cafe has a new launch on Saturday 14th April at the Titwood Pavilion, i.e. today!

The Brooklyn is famous for its high quality food and drinks – both are now going to also be available at Titwood’s clubhouse. To begin with the venture will be open Thursdays 3-9pm, Fridays 3-9pm and Saturdays 9-6pm. The grand opening is today – Saturday 14th April. Please come down to the club and welcome the Brooklyn, (and also enjoy some cake and food samples as your reward!).

One of the Brooklyn’s strengths is its coffee – the Titwood clubhouse will now have coffee shop quality coffees and hot drinks from within the cafe. The Brooklyn has been planning and investing to uphold and extend its quality coffee.

David Pelosi will be at Titwood all day to answer any questions. David and his colleagues would all love to see as many members visit the clubhouse as possible, both to enjoy the launch and also to help highlight what else they would like offered.

The Brooklyn is also going to host BBQ’s on big event days and cater for club match days. Please can members wishing to book catering for match days speak to Jonny Mcdonald who will also be at Titwood (and mobile, 07969 239942) to book up from the Brooklyn’s choice of menus. In time there will be a booking procedure co-ordinated.

The Brooklyn has high hopes for the café and hope the members will be happy. There has been a lot of hard work into getting everything set up – please come and support this, and tell all your friends to do so too!

British Tennis Membership

To be eligible to play in any tournaments or competitions Titwood Lawn Tennis Club Members need to have British Tennis Membership and a British Tennis Membership no. which is affiliated to the Club. This is free to join and can be completed using the following linkhttps://www.lta.org.uk/Members/Join/.

If members already have British Tennis Membership please can they check that the LTA Registered Place to Play is Titwood Lawn Tennis Club.

Club Membership Subscriptions: payment due please!

Please can everyone remember that the club’s new year 2012/13 subscriptions should be paid by the 30th April, after which any subscriptions received will be subject to a £10 adminisration fee.

Early payment of the subscriptions is hugely helpful for the club – if you can help with this it would be hugely appreciated.

Recent Cake Sale: £100 raised

John Baird has emailed to thank all the members of Titwood Lawn Tennis Club who supported the cake sale last Saturday. The players enjoyed fabulous weather for tennis and eating cakes al fresco! The 3 girls from Craigholme School managed to raise over £100 on the day, which will help fund further enterprise projects to raise money for the ‘Cash for Kids’ appeal.

The support of the members is very much appreciated.

Court usage, Team matches, 2012

This week is the last team match practice on Monday and Tuesday evenings.
Interclub matches start the week of the 16th of April and run until the end of June.

Please can members note that the front courts will be booked for matches most weekdays during this time (except for social tennis on Thursdays). Please refer to the calendar in the clubhouse for court usage.

We would ask members to be considerate and only book one hour slots on the back courts to allow everybody to have court time.
